Seven Layers of Fun!

That's right, Furniture 101 and it falls on the last Saturday of each month. Please join me with a small piece that you can comfortably carry in to class! We will walk through the steps together. I will demonstrate how to properly prep, paint, and wax all in one day. The possibilities are endless...truly. Painting is art therapy that you shouldn't live without!

Here we are with the “before” shot of our most recent transformation. A good cleaning, some sanding of uneven and heavily scratched areas and a bit of glueing to stabilize the frame was all it needed for the prep work.

I was immediately in love with the design of this piece. It is vintage in style and the carving is just beautiful with the swag design, floral drops, fluted borders and roping design. It is made of real wood so that alone makes it a worthwhile endeavor for saving from the landfill. These pieces are made to last and the storage capability is very generous as well.

The first coat was applied with Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint® in Louis Blue. It is a lovely soft baby blue tone. The second coat of paint was applied with a heavily stippled textured effect. The application was to strategically hide the layers of brush marks having been painted multiple times and in many coats of various colors previously. This girl has had many personalities over the years! Next, I applied a color wash of Pure over the entire piece while extracting much of the white to create a mottled effect by exposing more of the Louis Blue beneath. This achieved a serene muted color which blended nicely with the textured surface. Lastly, I played up the carving with a dry brushing technique in Pure White. Even the metal hardware was freshened up with the Chalk Paint®. The entire piece is encapsulated in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Clear Wax® to seal and protect it for years to come. This newly transformed chest of drawers sits proudly in the showroom awaiting its new forever home.

A lovely shade of blue…perfect for a coastal cottage or year round residence. It would grace any bedroom, living area or hall setting easily.
